Snakehead Renaming Contest

Posted on

The Charles County Commissioners announced the winner of the Snakehead renaming contest yesterday at the commissioners meeting. Spotted Channa was the winner, submitted by Gilbert Castaneda. Spotted Channa is derived from the scientific name of the Northern Snakehead, Channa Argus.

The renaming of the fish is purely symbolic and has not officially recognized at this time by Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Charles County will submit the name to DNR in the hopes of having the name of the fish modified statewide.
